So what does StrokeIt do? I hear you ask. Well, StrokeIt enables you to use your mouse more intelligently and effectively. Essentially, StrokeIt allows you to perform common functions with a gesture of the mouse.
For example, when browsing the web, the average person spends a lot of time going back and forwards. You can click a back button, or press backspace on your keyboard, but using mouse gestures allows you to go back or forward simply by making a left or right gesture with the mouse.
In order to actually perform a gesture, you start by holding down the right button of the mouse. Then, you make your gesture (eg moving the mouse in a straight line to the left to go back). Then release the button and the gesture will be performed. Simple as that.
Opera, the internet browser, was the inspiration for Mouse Gestures, and other browsers now include these by default. StrokeIt, though, allows you to use gestures in each and every application on your Windows PC.
When you first install the program, you will find that it takes a little while to get used to. Check out the options as well, to turn off the coloured lines that gestures produce (you can literally make them and the whole program run invisibly in the background if you wish).
Once you are familiar with the concept of gestures, you can start to configure them for individual applications. While the most common gestures in file managers and web browsers are back, forward and up, other programs like graphics packages or word processors have different requirements and will use different gestures.
I've been using mouse gestures for a year or two now, and they are without a doubt the biggest advance in user computer interaction since the invention of the mouse. They will change how you use your PC and the internet. Go and give them a try!

I have the All-In-One Gestures extension for Firefox and it works virtually the same as that program.

I almost can't imagine the pain and sorrow in life without StrokeIt. Almost, because I feel that pain, when I sit down in front of computer without it and begin to gesture like mad expecting the magic... Poor me...
I even disable embedded gestures in Opera and deinstall All-In-One Gestures extension in Firefox, because StrokeIt engine is far more advanced and gives me whole "gestures approach" to my system.

I am a strokeit addict since a year now without realizing how much I need it until I go to a friend's pc and try to use the gestures that I have so taken for granted in my pc and find that he/she is not running strokeit.. then I feel sorry for them :-)

I installed the latest version of StrokeIt, and it would not work with my Firefox - version 2.0.0.6 - (with IE there were no problems from the beginning). Aparrently, after some searching, the solution was to change the CLASS:MozillaWindowClass to CLASS:MozillaUIWindowClass. Anyhow, now it works, and it is great. Thanks for the tip!

I've been using StrokeIt for about three years now, I've been following the versions as they come out. I've even written my own implementations of StrokeIt. The gesture recognitions was the easy part but to reach a level that's anywhere near as configurable and flexible as StrokeIt is would take me ages. It's a fantastic program. The pain I'm feeling now though is the fact that StrokeIt's creator hasn't released a version that supports Vista fully yet. He's been completely out of communication with his site for over six months now, so I'm not sure if he's continuing development. Makes me sad.

Yes, the strokeit engine is far more powerful. I tried all in one gestures and immediately uninstalled it.. why?
Well it supports only some very basic gestures. For instance, it does not have / or \ gestures and their derivatives.. (They are recognized as left, right up or down)
it makes the whole idea of gestures useless.. because these are the two gestures in strokeit that I am most addiced too. I use it for different purposes in different applications.
