Have you considered just filing for a traademark on ilovejackdaniels ?
If you get it, then you would have a right to keep your site. FYI, trademarks are only valid towards things that logically can create "consumer confusion". A technical site, is clearly not going to create confusion with an alcohol beverage company. simply, no one is going to think that you iljd.com is the site for an alcohol company.

Furthermore, if the USPTO grants you the trademark forusing iljd for technical/computer applications, then they have even less leverage over you.
Just a thought.

Comment on What Happened to ILoveJackDaniels.com?

Comment by Derrick ( )

All be it to me, I think JD's marketing department knows exactly what they are up to. If one was to look very closely to Trademark law, one will notice that it is generally frowned upon to Trademark a "Proper Name" such as any person may have. Having gone through having my own name Trademarked for business here in Canada, I was warned that a Natural name that has been Trademarked can not be enforced unless it has a unique Logo or Label Trademarked as well. Since you no longer have a similar looking Logo tied to the domain, I very much doubt that Trademark Infringement can be claimed anymore leaving the only standing issue to be marketing. If they can cause you to give up the domain and the redirect currently tied to it back into the free market without having to pay for it... they could use it as a redirect back to their own site taking advantage of all the old links that currently exist. That in itself is just Dirty Pool, and has nothing to do with honest business practices.

With that said, cudo's to the effort you have put into both your cheat sheets and to the new site. Looks good and really fit's the bill for those of us who need quick reminders just to put together our sites codes! Fantastic work.
As for something to Drink... I like my Scotch and would recommend Gordon Highlander anytime, if you can't find it or just want to try a cheap stand by... I came on your site for the first time november 08 and loved it. it helped me immensely in building my first "just the basics" website. i'm back again after some thinking space and when i was trying to remember the name of the site (new notebook have no favourites links to pages visited) all i could think of was jack daniels. The moral of the story? Lucky i didn't wait two years to visit again, i might never have found it.
