It is now same as DATETIME except it's stored using 4 bytes instead of 8 and has some special features like DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP and ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP.<br /> See MySQL manual for more.<br /> <br /> Another thing is, ext/mysql is no longer recommended extension to use for MySQL in PHP.
